The Paradox Role-playing system was developed to push the boundaries of your role-playing experience. Focusing on the character and the story,
Paradox attempts to bring what you love about role-playing into your campaigns, and leave what you dislike behind. The Paradox Advanced Rulebook is separated into nine chapters:
Introduction, Character Generation, Races, Skills, Cybernetics and Bionetics, Robots and Androids, The Realms, The Mental Realm, Magic and the Role-playing Universe, and Rules. Each section attempts to
convey the feel and simplicity of the role-playing system; however, there may be some spots which players will be confused about. To help you
along, Faight Industries offers a Facts Forum (FF) to all registered users. All you need to do is register the Paradox rules and you will be eligible
for all the benefits of registered users, including support.
Character Generation is the longest and most complicated chapter of
the Paradox system. For that, we apologize. In order to streamline the remainder of the system, we were forced to elaborate on characters. We have found that developing a character is not a bad thing, and
therefore have kept the character generation process involved. Players should develop characters much like they would develop relationships
with loved ones—with time and effort. To aid you in creating characters, Character Generation Software will be developed and available for download.
The Race
chapter describes some of the different races available in the Paradox Universe. Listed here are Race names, descriptions, and societal generalizations. Also included are rules for developing your own races.
The Skills chapter provides a list of the most common skills in the paradox system. This is not a complete listing, future sourcebooks and modules will add new skills as needed.
Cybernetics and Bionetics describes some different Mechanical and Biological augmentations available in some eras. These are just guidelines and descriptions, Game Masters should feel free to develop
any Cybernetics or Bionetics that the see necessary for the fluid progression of their campaigns.
Robots and Androids describes how to design non-organic character
races. This is one of the more advanced chapters in the book, and does not need to be followed strictly. The technology listed in it is only a partial
list, players and Game Masters should develop additional tech and abilities as they see fit. A Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet is available to help make designing an ARCO (Android Robotic Cybernetic Organism)
easier.
The Realms section covers the three realms of reality in the Paradox universe. The Paradox Role-playing System is based on the premise that
there are three realms of existence: the Physical Realm, The Mental Realm, and the Spiritual Realm. Each of these realms is a world of its own, separated from the others by the boundaries of infinity.
The
Mental Realm and Magic and the Role-playing Universe describe the Mental and Spiritual Realms respectively.
The Mental Realm has not been completely developed yet, so is not
provided in this book. Look for its addition in weeks to come.
Magic and the Role-playing Universe contains information about the Spiritual Realm, Spiritual Energy (Mana) and its use. This section
touches upon many interesting phenomenon, including sorcery, spiritual entities, and internal magic. Players interested in a campaign with magic should read this section.
The final section is Rules
. It describes all the rules that need to be addressed, including how combat is resolved (in all three realms, because it is the same), the use of explosives, chemicals, etc. Again,
registered users can contact Faight Industries should they have any questions on the way that the game system covers a subject—or preferably, the Game master can take the initiative to make something
up. Use your imagination, that's what role-playing is about.
